16 May This year, Cinema Online’s pioneering event, the Movie Carnival, receives official endorsement befittingly from the Ministry of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage. Deputy Minister Teng Boon Soon will officiate the launch of MC08 on 28 May at Lower Ground Floor, Oval, 1 Utama. This signals a continuing relationship between the Ministry and Cinema Online that will benefit all Malaysian movie fans.
Last year, Y.B. Datuk Mohd Shafie Hj. Apdal, who was the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs then, launched the Movie Carnival. It is the biggest and most successful movie-themed event in the country, bringing together the largest congregation of movie lovers, and is a great medium for local fans and filmmakers to come together and exchange thoughts and ideas.

The National Film Development Corporation or FINAS will also be a part of the MC08 festivities in conjunction with their celebration Hari Seniman (Entertainers Day), which runs from 29 May to 28 June. This is to honour and remember the sacrifices and contributions made by people in the performing arts industry in the country. It does not only cover the artists and players in the entertainment industry like music, film, theatre and broadcasting, but is also a tribute to anyone in Malaysia who has passion and experience of the craft.
What else can you expect at MC08? Movie character appearances, tons of goodies to be won, green screen photo opportunities, movie trailers and previews, celebrity meet-and-greet sessions, exclusive movie merchandise, the exciting finals for our “Prom Night” contest, plus Cinema Online’s very own Movie Patrol crew will be there to liven up the event with more freebies! For the kiddies, there will be colouring and drawing contests aplenty to stimulate their creativity and keep them busy.

Themed “When Dreams Come Through”, this year’s event is poised to bring a movie experience like no other. Working around this year’s theme, MC08 is crossing the boundaries of interaction and experience, where the movies can literally come to life before your eyes!
Last year, we had a rip-roaring time showcasing “Transformers”, “Pirates Of The Caribbean”, “Fantastic Four” and “Harry Potter” among other blockbusters. This year more of the same can be expected, as we highlight the year’s biggest movies like “Wall-E”, “The Dark Knight”, “Kung Fu Panda”, “Red Cliff” and many, many more. How does one say it all in such a short space? At the event, there were character appearances, meet-the-fans sessions with celebs and costume competitions. There were games, freebies and movie collectibles on sale.
There were so many things going on all under the same roof!
Come 28 May, the fiesta and festivities will return once more, bringing non-stop movie fun for six long days at Lower Ground Floor Oval, 1 Utama.
