The contest is aimed at promoting the art of Chinese calligraphy and to add some gaiety to the coming Lunar New Year celebration.

There are four categories in the contest — open, secondary school, primary school and non-Chinese.

Participants in the open category have to pen a pair of seven-character couplets with a Chinese calligraphy brush.

Participants in the secondary school, primary school and non-Chinese categories have to pen a pair of six-character, five-character and four-character couplets respectively.

A participant may only take part in one category.

For all categories, except the open category, two winners will be selected for first and second place.
