PRIZE: RM1,000, a trophy, crown, sash and vintage saree
DEADLINE: 27 October 2007
THE Perak Saree Queen pageant will be held for the fifth year running to raise funds for the National Autistic Society of Malaysia.
Organisation chairman K. Baska-ran said the contestants had so far been paired down to 15 finalists.
The grand final, organised by the Bougainvillea Country Club in Ipoh in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2007, will be held at the club ball-room on Oct 27 at 7pm.
“This is a state-level pageant but next year we are aiming to intro-duce it nationwide,” said Baska- ran, adding that the committee hoped to raise at least RM4,000 for charity.
“This is a pageant not just for Indians but for all ethnic groups. We even have an European and a Malay taking part,” he said.
During the final, contestants will be tested on their congeniality and catwalk skills, and put through a question-and-answer session.
“They will also be judged on the charity work they do,” said Baska-ran.
Last year, student nurse S. Vassugi won the title.
This year’s Saree Queen will re-ceive RM1,000, a trophy, crown, sash and vintage saree.
Tickets for places at the dining ta-bles are still available at RM40 or RM50 each.
