State broadcasting acting director Monshi Abdullah had the honour to launch the all-time favourite singing competition here yesterday
In his speech, Monshi said the annual competition, which started 23 years ago, had been an attractive product of the national radio and television station, “so much so that other TV stations have shown interest in holding similar competition”.
However, the Bintang Kecil competition continues to have a very strong presence among the people as it served as a platform where future singing sensation gets discovered, he said.
“We must continue to make the competition a credible competition which seriously wants to discover potential singing talents among the young,” he said.
Besides, Bintang Kecil was also a competition that promoted unity among all the races here, he added.
The winner of the state-level Bintang Kecil 2008 will then move on to represent Sarawak at the national-level Bintang Kecil on Nov 22 to be held at RTM’s P Ramlee Auditorium here.
Monshi said the last time Sarawak emerged the champion was seven years ago through Sazia Abang Selir in 2000. He is now a recording artiste specialising in Melanau music. Monshi hoped that the title would come ‘home’ this year.
Prizes for the state-level competition are RM2,000 (champion), RM1,500 (first runner-up), RM1,000 (second runner-up), RM200 (consolation) and RM300 (Best performer). Prizes for the national-level competition are RM3,000 (champion), RM2,000 (first runner-up), RM1,500 (second runner-up), RM500 (consolation) and RM500 (best performer).
Meanwhile, RTM will distribute entry forms for the competition to various schools in the state.
Besides, intending participants can also obtain entry forms from RTM stations throughout the state and also during the auditions.
