The Borneo International Yachting Challenge Trophy will be presented to the overall winner of the IRC class; The Labuan Harbour Regatta, The Passage Race and The Miri Bay Regatta. There will also be prizes for the first three placing’s in each category and Line Honour Winners of the Harbour races (Miri Bay Regatta and the Labuan Harbour Regatta).

5th BIYC Borneo International Yachting Challenge 2008
Organizing Authority
Ministry of Tourism Sarawak, Labuan Corporation, Sarawak Sailing Association and Miri Marina
1.0 Date
The BIYC (Borneo International Yachting Challenge 2008), comprising of Labuan Harbour Regatta, Labuan –- Miri passage race and Miri Bay Regatta will run from 7th September 2008 to 13th September 2008.
2.0 Rules
The BIYC will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2005 – 2008, the current IRC Rules, Part 1/2/3, the Offshore Special Regulations, during the hours of darkness, the RRS will be replaced by the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions except as any of that are modified by the Sailing Instructions.
Passage races will be Offshore Special Regulations category 3 whilst Harbour Races will be Offshore Special Regulations category 5.
3.0 Eligibility and Entry
The IRC Racing and IRC Cruising Classes are open to all boats which hold a current valid IRC certificate. Cruising class is defined as: Keelboats of a cruising nature without IRC certificate. The handicap rating of the Cruising category boats will be issued by the RC and is not subject to protest. The Race Committee reserves the right to reclassify categories and boats in the interests of fair competition. A boat made be excluded from entering or have its entry re-classified at the sole discretion of the Race Committee.
4.0 Schedule of Events
7 September Registration & Measurement (0915 – 1645 hrs)
8 September Labuan Harbour Regatta
Prize Giving ceremony – Labuan Harbour Regatta
9 September Labuan to Miri Passage Race
10 September Arrival of boats at Miri Marina
11 September Lay Day
Garden Party – Piasau Boat Club
12 September Miri Harbour Races
13 September Prize Giving and Closing Ceremony – Park City Everly Hotel
5.0 Sailing Instructions
The Sailing Instructions will be issued at registration.
6.0 Course
The Miri Bay Regatta and the Labuan Harbour Regatta will be windward-leeward & or triangle races
7.0 Scoring
The Appendix A Low Point System shall be used.
8.0 Prizes

9.0 Entry Fees
No entry fees.
10.0 Registration
Owners wishing to enter their boats for the BIYC2008 may complete a copy of the Entry Form (click here to download) and send it by any method to the Secretariat together with the crew list.
Confirmed entrants MUST present themselves for registration of their yachts and crew at the Race Secretariat on the 7th September 2008 between 0915 hours to 1645 hours.
The original or certified true copy IRC 2007 certificate shall be presented for inspection at the Secretariat during registration procedures.
No adjustment to IRC rating will be permitted after the 7th September unless to correct a rating office error.
At registration, yachts wll be informed which sails are required for measuring.
11.0 Advertisement
Advertising must conform to Category C, but limited to advertisements that in the opinion of the Race Committee do not conflict with the race sponsors or government regulations.
12.0 Berthing
All participating keel boats are accorded FREE berthing at the Miri Marina from the 10th to 13th September 2008. A safe anchorage area off Labuan Island will be designated.
13.0 Security
The Organizing Authority and the Race Committee will do their best to ensure a safe environment for competing boats and their crews. Access to the marina and social functions will be monitored and supervised. All skippers MUST sign a DECLARATION upon registration, absolving the Organizers of the event, of all liabilities which may arise in the course of the race.
14.0 Disclaimer
All those taking part in the BIYC do so at their own risk and responsibility. Crew members must also acknowledge this and release the Organizing Authority, the Race Committee, the sponsors of the event, their respective officers, volunteers of any liability whatsoever for any loss of life, property, personal injury, or damage caused by or arising out of the race/regatta.
15.0 Identification
All boats entered for the BIYC will be issued with a pair of hull stickers with the BIYC logo and identification number. These are to be placed at the forward part of the hull for the duration of the race.
16.0 International Jury
The Race Committee will appoint an International Jury in accordance with Appendix M of the RRS 2005 – 2008.
17.0 Race Briefing
Venue and time is 1800 hrs 7th September at the Waterfront Hotel, Labuan Island.
