Produce a video short films that highlight the importance of
learning foreign languages (here: German/French) in an innovative
and creative manner.

Theme: “Say it in Fench, say it in German, express yourself visually and verbally as best as you can – anything goes”

# and Festival for Young Malaysians

# Title

“Say it in French, say it in German, express yourself visually and verbally as best as you can – anything goes.”

# Presenters, organizers, facilitators

The competition is being organised jointly by Goethe Institute and Alliance Francaise in Kuala Lumpur, supported by the two Embassies and in partnership with the Ministry of Education of Malaysia.

Eligibility

Eligible for participation in the competition are Malaysian language students aged 12-21 years in three age groups and categories:

A High School students at the age of 12-15 (below and including 15)

B High School students at the age of 16-18 (below and including 18)

C College/University students at the age of 18-21 (below and including 21)

General Objective

The competition aims for the production for video short films (various technical formats are possible) that highlight the importance of learning foreign languages (here: German/French) in an innovative and creative manner.

The film genre/category can be documentary, fictional, or animation.

# Curricular Objectives

The production of short films in German has the following objectives :

* To facilitate a project across the curriculum including art, drama, media studies, computer studies, which can encompass subjects such as social studies, literature, environmental studies, tourism and hospitality
* To motivate students in an innovative way to learn another language
* To learn vocabulary and grammar in a content-based context
* To improve pronunciation
* To give students a sense of achievement and success by providing the opportunity to showcase their finished production.

Conditions

In order to enter into the competition, the film productions must

– consist of edited video footage of min 1, max 3 minutes playing time exclusive of credits which needs to be in a playable format that can be played by any ‘household’ DVD-player or uploaded on the festival website

– treat the theme of the competition,

– be accompanied by the Entry form that gives details of the participant, a synopsis and other details of the short film in question,

– be agreeable with official censureship procedures if on the final list of films to be screened publicly

# Copyrights (see forms)

The participants guarantee the originality of their work and will hold all rights of authorship connected with it.

The participants keep the copyright of their work for all commercial use, but will authorise the organisers to make non-commercial use of their work in the context of the competition (posters, video, internet…)

Organisers will furthermore be authorized to use the films for the duration of three year for other non-commercial purposes linked to the competition.

# Selection Process by the organizers

The jury reserves the right to exclude productions that either do not conform with the theme or technical limits of the competition or the content of which could be considered inappropriate for a youth audience or will be rejected by the censureship board (see conditions).

The contributions will be categorized according to genre and age (below 15, below 18, below 21).

The organisers and/or technical advisors will make a selection of the incoming contributions according to their own guidelines. A maximum 25 films per category will then be submitted to the jury.

To ensure transparency of the process, the results of the selection, the list of prize winners and runners up will be posted on the internet.

# Judging Panel + Cinema (KSF)

Alliance, Goethe, Main Sponsors, Film people, TV people, Media people, Language Teachers, Lecturers – altogether 10 people

The Jugdges’ decision is indisputable and must be accepted by all participants.

The films will be judged according to the following criteria:
1. creativity, sophistication, and innovation
2. amount, content and suitability of language use
3. technical quality

Special Jury Prize, Special Mention Prizes, Consolation Prizes

The winners will be awarded the prizes during an official ceremony attended by organisers, jury, partners, sponsors and press.
